Staying Connected in a Remote World

Updated: Nov 14, 2022

EMPLOYEES ARE ADJUSTING TO THE NEW NORMAL.

There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on the U.S. workforce. In just two months, remote work among knowledge workers grew from 27% to 60%. While this has been a huge adjustment for many employees, the benefits of working from home have only become increasingly evident. Remote workers lower your overall operating cost, grant you access to a more diverse employee base, and allow you to offer greater around-the-clock support. A permanent solution to an unforeseen crisis is likely going to outlive the pandemic itself. In fact, Global Workforce Analytics predicts that 25–30% of the workforce will still be working-from-home multiple days a week by the end of 2021. This transitionary period is only beginning, and the COVID crisis will transform how we work and manage our workforce entirely. We still have a long way to go, however, and the past few months have shed some light on the lack of support previously provided for remote workers. Many HR practitioners have never accounted for the various challenges that come along with working from home, such as feelings of isolation, more intense work schedules, and a lack of employee interactions to promote creativity and collaboration. RJ Reliance has partnered with MHR International to provide our customers with People First Connect, a software solution that will hold your organization together with a sense of cohesion, connectedness, and purpose. With years of experience helping to support evolving workplaces, RJR can give you the tools to transform your remote workforce today and into the future. Our goal is to drive your business performance while maintaining your company’s culture and identity. Connect People First Connect is a flexible, modular platform designed to cover the entire work experience in one place. It understands business processes, including notification, authorization, and the delegation of authority. By providing a whole set of tools to listen to your employees and track their performance, Connect allows your company to work better together while driving your business goals. Maintaining a successful workforce from afar starts with cultivating a sense of connectedness and collaboration regardless of where people are located. Motivate One of the major drawbacks of remote work is the inevitable loss of motivation that comes with being confined to your home office. We often take for granted the words of affirmation we hear daily in the office, whether it be a simple compliment from a coworker or a conversation over lunch. It is impossible to stay motivated through a screen when it feels as though your hard work is going unnoticed. Recognition is such a simple yet effective way to let employees know that they are valued. For this very reason, Connect includes a unique virtual recognition system that allows employees to recognize coworkers for their accomplishments publicly. Leaving a comment on an employee’s feed takes seconds, yet it boosts motivation, maintains your company’s culture, and sheds some light on the hard work being done across your organization. Communicate Without effective communication both within and across business units, a company cannot succeed. Via a social feed format, Connect allows you to broadcast important messages to individual teams and your entire company. Employees have the power to set up their own private communities and chat on different threads to keep conversations organized. Connect extends beyond business channels, as it also gives employees the ability to engage with various social communities depending on their interests. The platform has a little something for everyone and is sure to keep employees engaged from the comfort of their own home. We hope this snapshot of the future of remote workforce management piqued your interest. Even before the COVID crisis, RJR has been working to support evolving workplaces that include a growing percentage of remote team members. The current situation has only accelerated our interest in bringing solutions to our partners.
